This multi-sensory training program is ideal for children and adults who are motivated to learn more about their brain and body – to enhance their physical, emotional and learning outcomes. The training utilises the iLs Focus series, a program developed by US psychiatrist Dr. Ron Minson, who used similar therapies to help his own daughter overcome her learning challenges, physical coordination and depression. The program is based on the science of neuroplasticity – that is, that the brain grows, changes and creates new pathways in response to stimulation and input from the environment. This is referred to as a “bottom up” approach to brain development, which is how the brain grows and develops.
The brain develops in response to the stimulation it receives from the environment, which is received through the sensory system via one or all of the 7 senses – Vision, Sound, Smell, Taste, Touch, Balance and Body Awareness(joints). By utilising a multi-sensory approach in our training sessions, the brain receives extra stimulation which helps it to develop and organise itself in a more functional way. Sessions incorporate music, movement and cognitive components, to stimulate different sensory systems at the same time. Each session is engaging and is as much a game or exercise, as it is a therapy. Training can be customised to different skill levels and abilities and tailored to your interests for greater engagement.
The activities become more challenging as clients progress. As concentration and processing of sensory information improves, so do confidence and self-regulation. In young people, this staged approach gradually develops a foundation for successful learning and regulated behaviour. In adults, the improvement in focus and processing often results in better performance and a happier disposition.

WHO IS IT FOR?
The iLS Focus program can be used for children, adolescents or adults desiring improvement in any of the following areas:
- Attention and concentration
- Social engagement
- Emotional regulation and behaviour
- Learning and memory
- Stress management
- Anxiety, depression and trauma responses
- Auditory Processing
- Sensory processing and body organisation
- Motor coordination

HOW IS IT USED?
For most clients, each session is 60 minutes, including around 15-20 minutes of movement activities with the remaining time spent in a number of ways such as drawing, puzzles, playing quiet games, fine motor activities, educational games or light exercise. Shorter sessions are also available for clients where appropriate. During the duration of the session specially filtered calming music is heard through headphones which also incorporate bone conduction to stimulate the vestibular/balance system. Greater results are obtained with regular sessions, and we can tailor a program to suit your schedule. A frequency of 2-3 sessions a week is recommended.
WHERE IS IT DELIVERED?
As the delivery environment is important to the success of the intervention, the iLS Focus Series is delivered in the purpose-built, sensory calming environment of The Sacred Nest. It can also be tailored for delivery in schools or other settings.
