WHAT IS THERAPEUTIC TOUCH®?
Therapeutic Touch® or TT combines traditional knowledge with modern scientific understanding of the body’s energy field to support relaxation and healing. Underpinned by a strong evidence base, it has been used for over 50 years alongside mainstream healthcare by nurses and other medical practitioners around the world. Founded by Professor Emeritus of Nursing Dolores Krieger, PhD and natural healer Dora Kunz in New York in 1972, the modality has been taught around the world including universities. For more TT history, visit the Australasian TTAA website and the International TTIA website.
“Therapeutic Touch® seeks to restore and re-balance the rhythmical patterns and transfer of energy to the individual, creating an environment where the body’s healing process is naturally accelerated.” (Krieger, 1993)
Cynthia Bartolo embarked upon her TT journey in 2015 because she wanted to become more centred and balanced herself. During the completion of her training followed by the mentorship program in 2019, Cynthia discovered that the modality itself was also grounded in decades of research.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?
Although many benefits have been recorded, research studies demonstrate that TT is effective in 4 key areas:
- Promotes the Healing Response
- Increases Relaxation
- Reduces Pain
- Reduces Anxiety
Therapeutic Touch® has also been shown to stabilise blood pressure, settle agitated behaviours, improve sleeping patterns, strengthen the immune system and increase intuition and creativity.
“It is easy in our modern lives for our energy system to become out of balance, causing feelings of stress and overwhelm”. Cynthia says. “My role as a TT practitioner is to re-balance your field so that your energy can flow more freely throughout your body. Apart from feeling more calm, your own natural healing processes are optimised”.
