What is the NDIS?

The NDIS stands for the National Disability Insurance Scheme. It is Australia’s first national scheme that provides funding directly to people with a disability.

Funding can be allocated for a wide range of conditions that fall under either intellectual, cognitive, neurological, sensory, physical, or psycho-social. To determine if you are eligible, you must meet certain conditions that can be found here.

Funding is managed differently for young participants under 9, which uses the Early Childhood Approach. Funding and assistance is therefore managed through one of the following:

The NDIS is a welcome support for participants and families that enables them to access services needed for every day living, inclusion in community and achievement of personal goals. The scheme was rolled out to all regions of Victoria in 2016. Being a relatively new scheme, it is still evolving as it adjusts to the needs of participants as well as providers. which can make it confusing to navigate.
